Annadanam

- the sacred act of offering food to the Poor and Needy

Annadanam (food for the poor and hungry) and meditation are the key pillars of Sammara Beedam. Our Guruji says that offering food to the poor is a Godly act. God exists within the human body, and the human body is just a food body. If there is no human body, then God itself would not be there, nor would any creature on earth would think about God. At Sammara Beedam (Trichy) alone, food is offered to around 200+ poor people every day for over 7 years. We want to maximize the count as much as possible so that no child or poor adult suffers from malnutrition and starvation. Currently, our finances are holding us back from serving more and more people. Students of Sammara Beedam have taken it among themselves and spend out of their pockets to serve hungry people in places like Delhi, Bangalore, etc.

Annadan, the practice of offering food to those in need, is a deeply revered tradition rooted in ancient cultures and scriptures. Derived from the Sanskrit words "anna" (food) and "danam" (donation), this act of selfless giving is considered one of the highest forms of charity, transcending religious and societal boundaries. It is believed that offering food satisfies both physical hunger and spiritual yearning, bringing immense blessings to the giver and removing the bad Karma of the giver. Historical texts and temples narrate stories of kings and sages who upheld annadanam as a sacred duty, ensuring that no one in their communities went hungry. This timeless custom, still practiced in many parts of the world, embodies compassion and unity, reminding us that sharing a meal is a profound gesture of humanity that nourishes both body and soul. Annadan wipes out or burns our karma through the acids produced in the stomach of the Poor. Every small aspect in this world is transactional and interconnected. Offering food to the poor is the best bad karma cleanser.

At Sammara Beedam, we prepare the food ourselves to make it more cost-effective in our dedicated ashram kitchen for annadan. A lot of effort and dedication are put in this direction by our Guruji and students who prepare food for at least 200 people daily. We estimate the cost of each food packet to be around 40 to 50 rupees, including the fuel cost for the food transportation Van, which we managed to purchase. We distribute food to all corners and remote villages around Trichy, and similarly, the students of Sammara Beedam from Delhi, Bangalore, etc. Every day, clean and healthy varieties of food, such as curd rice, tomato rice, lemon rice, Sambar Rice with Vegetables, Pepper Rice, and more, are donated to the poor and hungry.

Sammara Beedam's Vision is to offer food for the hungry at all places.

Please consider donating to us for a valuable cause, and every rupee you contribute will go towards Anndanam and charity.
